SWE Student Technical
Presentation Competition

Every year at the National
Conference, since 1980 -- approximately, SWE holds a Student Technical
Presentation Competition. Any undergraduate member
of SWE is eligible to enter. The competition has two parts:
written at the regional level and oral at the national level.
Regional Level: written competition
Five
copies of a technical paper must be submitted to the Regional
Coordinator (Kerrie Gordon) arriving in her hands by April
1st. Previous winners at the regional level are not
eligible. The paper must be on work that you have done either as a
co-op, in a class such as a laboratory experiment, a research project,
or a senior design project. Generally senior design projects are
very well received.
Format:
The paper cannot exceed 10 double-spaced pages plus a maximum of 15
additional pages for the title page, tables, figures, etc. The
standard technical paper format should be followed. A description

Accompanying the five double-spaced
copies, a single spaced copy plus the application form--Appendix M in
the Student Section Manual must be submitted.
One winner from Region D will be
chosen to make an oral presentation at the National conference.
She will receive free transportation (airfare) to the National
Conference. if a UA student is the winner, the UA Student Section
will pay for her registration fee.
National Level: oral competition
(Washington, DC, June 27-July1, 2000)
The regional
winners will participate in a practice session at the National
Conference (Tuesday morning) and the Technical Presentation Competition
(Wednesday morning). Presentation are typically 15 minutes with 5
minutes for questions from judges. All Regional Winners will be
recognized at the student awards banquet. Typical prizes are 1st
place: $1500; 2nd place: $1000; 3rd place: $750. More information
will be available to the regional winner. You will also have the
opportunity to invite recruiters from the Career Fair to hear your
presentation.
