Have a noise, vibration, and/or acoustics problem?
Depending on the nature of your problem, the Structural Acoustics Lab may be able to help.
Need to solve a technical problem that's never been solved before?
The STAL conducts fundamental and applied research in the areas of noise and vibration control, experimental method development, analysis method development, as well as other related areas. If you have a long-term problem that you have just not been able to solve or have not had the time to address, contact STAL. We may be able to set-up a research project to solve your problem. For general information on past research at STAL, see the STAL Research page. Research projects typically have an annual cost of $30k or more, depending on the level of work and hardware requirements. For specific information as well as information on fees related to such projects, contact Dr. Shepard.
Need to fix a small problem in a short time?
If you have a small noise or vibration problem and don't have time or funds to support a research project, obtaining a solution via consulting may be the best option. For information on possible consulting arrangements, contact Dr. Shepard.
Need to educate yourself or some of your employees in the areas of acoustics, noise, or vibrations?
Several classes in these areas are available through the University of Alabama. Can't travel to campus? Most of these classes are often offered via the QUEST distance education program. If you have a specific need and want a class to be offered in this manner, contact Dr. Shepard for additional information.
Need a quick training seminar on vibrations or acoustics (noise) for your employees?
If you don't have time to take a class at UA, scheduling a short seminar at your company may be a better option. These seminars can range from two hours to two days, depending on the amount of material and depth of content covered. For more information on seminars or short courses, contact Dr. Shepard.
Need to hire someone with expertise in these areas?
If you know the level of expertise you require, STAL may be able to provide information on recent or pending graduates in one or more of these areas. BS-Level students with an interest in these areas typically have had one or two undergraduate courses in vibrations and/or acoustics as well as courses in machine dynamics and system dynamics. MS- and Ph.D.-Level students have typically taken several graduate level courses and conducted an in-depth research project in these areas. For more information, contact Dr. Shepard.
