One of the goals of the Structural Acoustics Laboratory (STAL) at The University of Alabama is to provide state-of-the-art facilities for conducting graduate-based research. To that end, STAL supports graduate research assistants conducting research in the areas of vibrations, acoustics, noise control, and related fields. This research generally includes experimental and/or analytical studies.
If you are interested in obtaining a graduate degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering and conducting research in any of these areas, you are encouraged to apply. Admission requirements for the Mechanical Engineering program can be found on the Mechanical Engineering web site. Furthermore, an on-line application can be completed via the main UA web site and an on-line graduate catalog is available.
Please note that the potential for obtaining an assistantship, fellowship, or other means of financial support cannot be determined until admission has been granted. Therefore, one must submit an application prior to contacting STAL for information regarding any of these means of financial support. Please do not contact STAL regarding the availability of an assistantship before applying to the UA graduate program. General inquiries regarding current research topics are always encouraged. Besides research project funding, there are a number of UA, Alabama, and National fellowships for which qualified applicants may apply. Contact STAL for more info.
