STAL and Education
There are a number of Structural Acoustics related educational opportunities at The University of Alabama.
Undergraduate Courses
ME 377 - Noise Control
Physical properties of noise; hearing and noise criteria measurement techniques; and noise-control fundamentals applied to practical problems. Sample Syllabus.
Honda Generator Noise Test Summary from Spring 2006
ME 470 -Mechanical Vibrations
Free and forced vibrations, both undamped and damped' and systems with many degrees of freedom formulated and analyzed by matrix methods. Experimental techniques of vibration measurement are introduced. Sample Syllabus. This class is cross-listed with AEM 470.
ME 471 - Fundamentals of Acoustics
Fundamental physical principles underlying wave propagation and resonance in mechanical systems. Introduces applications and provides experience in acoustic and audio measurements and the associated instrumentation. Sample Syllabus. This class is cross-listed with AEM 471.
ME 490 - Mechanical engineering design II
Occasionally, a vibrations or acoustics related design project will be available for a student team in this class. Availability will depend on the semester projects.
Graduate Courses
ME 562 - Intermediate Dynamics
Dynamics of systems in moving coordinate frames; Lagrangian formulation and Hamilton's principle; stability and perturbation concepts for rigid body motion; motion of systems of rigid bodies in three dimensions. Sample Syllabus.
ME 570 -Mechanical Vibrations
Formulation and solution of free and forced vibration problems with single and multiple DOFs. Both modal and frequency response techniques are discussed.. Sample Syllabus. This class is cross-listed with AEM 570.
ME 571 - Fundamentals of Acoustics
Fundamental physical principles underlying wave propagation and resonance in mechanical systems. Introduces applications and provides experience in acoustic and audio measurements and the associated instrumentation. Sample Syllabus. This class is cross-listed with AEM 571.
