COE Reconfigurable Hemi-Anechoic Chamber

The College of Engineering has a reconfigurable hemi-anechoic chamber.

While in the hemi-anechoic configuration, the chamber has been verified by an independent third party to meet ISO 3745:2003 specifications at frequencies down to 80 Hz.

The chamber was installed by Acoustic Systems Inc.

A brochure of the chamber is available for viewing and download.  The facility is large enough to accommodate a large pick-up truck.

The chamber is available for use in research at the University of Alabama.  It is available for non-UA projects on a per-job hire basis.  The chamber is also available for use in collaborative research projects that involve participation of UA faculty members.  For more information, please contact Dr. Steve Shepard.

The following photo shows the large double-layer exterior doors.

The wedge carts that make the chamber anechoic are also shown.

Below is a photo of Dr. Shepard inside the chamber.
