The Center for
Advanced Vehicle Technologies
(CAVT) was established
on The
University of Alabama campus in September of 1998. Through the Transportation
Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), U.S.
Department of Transportation funding was established for
conducting advanced vehicle research through the Center.
The Center promotes interdisciplinary research across the
University through various research and education
programs. The vision of the Center is to assist
in the
development of efficient, safe, secure, economical, durable,
comfortable, and user- and environmentally-friendly vehicles
for meeting the transportation needs of America through
discovery, research and education.
The Center focuses
on:
- Discovering, through
research and development, new
technologies
for advancing
the vehicular state-of-the-art.
- Developing a new generation of
vehicles with improved energy efficiencies,
lowered pollutant emissions to the environment, and
increased safety.
- Conceiving and applying
computer-based tools for modeling and
analyzing vehicles and vehicle components such as the
engine, suspension and power transmission equipment.
- Teaching advanced
technology through the undergraduate and
graduate education programs, interactions with industrial
partners and outreach activities to regional industry.
